New year. Fresh start. New goals.
How does adventure fit in to your 2018?

Here at Big Adventure Outfitters, our mission is to equip the modern day explorer. We want to provide you with everything you'll need to explore the world, and make your dream adventures a reality. Every week in our brick + mortar store, we interact with a range of people: the well-versed explorers to those who are curious to begin. I think one of the most fun parts of our job is to interact with people who are looking to get started in the world of outdoor adventure. How do you begin? Here's a few tips to bring adventure in to 2018!

1. Start small...or anywhere, for that matter.

One of the hardest parts of creating new resolutions, habits, and skills is just getting started! Our advice to you...start small. If you are interested in camping, try it out in your backyard one weekend. Find a local campsite. If it's hiking that has your interest, look for a local trail. There are plenty of community parks and state parks centrally located that offer hiking and walking trails. It's probably not the best idea to immediately attempt a thru hike of the Appalachian Trail, but you can start small right where you're at.

2. Do your research.

We literally have years of knowledge right at our finger tips. Put that smart phone or tablet to good use. You can learn anything off of Youtube these days. If you're wondering how to organize your pack, or even set up your tent or start a fire, I guarantee there is a video for that. If Youtube can't help you out, ask us! We're here to help YOU. You can also find tons of gear reviews and recommended supplies at a number of different websites!

3. Involve your friends and family.

There's an old African proverb that says, "If you want to go fast go alone. If you want to go far, go together". One of the best ways to enjoy the outdoors is to explore with your friends. Recruit friends who have previous outdoor experience, or get a group together that doesn't. Either way - you can be assured that you'll be left with some rich memories as a result.
